GNI Celebrates Emeritus Professor Antony Asiwaju MFR At Ogun Conference

As the representative of the Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, which shares a border with the Republic of Benin, I was honoured to attend the international conference hosted by the Ogun State Government to celebrate the remarkable contributions of Emeritus Professor Antony Asiwaju MFR.

Professor Asiwaju, a distinguished son of Imeko-Afon, has dedicated his illustrious career to the fields of Comparative African History and Borderlands Studies. His pioneering research and scholarly work have not only enriched academia, but have also profoundly shaped our understanding of boundary management and land issues across the African continent and the world.

As a recent convert to the importance of border development, I was particularly inspired by the conference, which aligned with the key priorities outlined in our 15-year development plan for the Federal Constituency.

The unique comparative advantage enjoyed by my constituency, with its direct border access to the Republic of Benin, underscores the vital significance of Professor Asiwaju’s work.

I have consistently advocated for border development on the floor of the House of Representatives, recognizing its potential for our communities.

This conference, organized by the Olabisi Onabanjo University and the Tai Solarin University of Education, provided a valuable platform to further cement the importance of this agenda.

I am deeply grateful to Professor Asiwaju for his scholarly contributions and his role as a father figure, leader, and mentor to our people. It is my sincere wish that he continues to enjoy good health, vitality, and wisdom in the years to come.
