Ayetoro, Ogun State – Sunday marked a milestone of hope and opportunity as Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, member of the House of Representatives representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, awarded scholarships to brilliant but financially challenged students under the GNI Education Support Interventions Plan.

The colourful ceremony, held in Ayetoro, benefited eleven deserving students pursuing careers in education. The first-phase beneficiaries of this combined federal and personal intervention are:

  • Idowu Janet Adejumoke
  • Olanlokun Idowu
  • Olalotan Damilola Timileyin
  • Adeyemi Joseph Ayinde
  • Oketoyan Esther
  • Musbau Yusuf Asabi
  • Adeshina Zainab Adejoke
  • Falade Hannah Oluwapelumi
  • Salako Kabirat Aduke
  • Oyero Adedeji Peter
  • Adeyanju Adeola Mary

Nearly 50 hopeful candidates applied. After rigorous screening by the Federal Scholarship Board, 15 met the strict criteria, and 11 were chosen to receive life-changing awards worth between ₦300,000 and ₦500,000 annually for two to three years.

Representing the lawmaker, Senior Legislative Aide Hon. Oduntan Atanda Razak described the event as “a day of renewed hope and a firm demonstration that education remains the strongest foundation for an equitable and prosperous future.”

He revealed that the GNI Education Support Interventions Plan, launched in February 2024, is a flagship pillar of Hon. Gboyega Isiaka’s 15-year development blueprint for the constituency. “This initiative was born from a deep concern over the declining educational placement in our area, especially in Imeko-Afon,” he explained. “We are removing every financial obstacle so that brilliance, not bank balance, determines who succeeds.”

The lawmaker extended profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for championing education through the Student Loan Scheme and the renewed push for nationwide scholarships, saying it validates the President’s vision of education as the ultimate tool for national transformation.

Since its inception, the GNI Education Support Plan has delivered tangible results:

  • Twenty additional support teachers were deployed to secondary schools, dramatically improving performance in English, Mathematics, and core subjects.
  • Glowing testimonials from schools such as Community High School, Ohunbe; Alaketu High School, Imeko; Nazareth High School, Imeko; Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro; and Eyinni Comprehensive High School, Iboro.
  • Ongoing construction and renovation of classrooms and facilities in at least ten schools via constituency projects.
  • Free JAMB preparatory classes, mentorship programmes, and distribution of learning materials.

Addressing the new scholars directly, Hon. Oduntan charged them with a powerful message from their principal:

“This scholarship is not just a reward; it is a responsibility. You are now ambassadors of excellence. Study hard, dream big, and remember—your success is the success of your family, your community, and the entire Yewa North/Imeko-Afon constituency. We are with you every step of the way.”

He revealed even brighter prospects ahead: efforts are underway to secure spots for science-inclined students from the constituency in the prestigious Federal Government Bilateral Education Assistance (BEA) Programme, which sends Nigerian students to top universities abroad.

“This is only the beginning,” Hon. Oduntan assured the cheering crowd. “Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and the entire GNI team will never rest until every child in this constituency—no matter how humble their background—has the chance to rise to the very top through education.”

For the 11 scholars clutching their award letters amid tears and applause, Sunday was more than a ceremony. It was the day their dreams stopped being impossible.

One constituency. One vision. Countless futures transformed—one scholarship at a time.
